Medical Expenses

Prepare for the Unexpected.

A clinic visit, tests, or a few days away from work can arrive together. This page is about money you can reach quickly. It is not a health plan, and it does not replace insurance or a scheme you may already be part of.

What to work out first

Four questions, in order. A product comes after the answers, not before them.

  1. 01

Note a recent medical cost your household actually paid, so the number is real.

  2. 02

Check what cover you already have, and what it does not pay on the day.

  3. 03

Keep a separate accessible amount for the part you would have to pay yourself.

  4. 04

If work would also stop, include a few days of income, not only the hospital bill.

Be careful with the timing

Urgent medical costs need money you can reach. Market-linked investments can fluctuate and may not suit an expense you cannot delay.

  • An urgent bill cannot wait for a fund to recover.
  • Insurance, if you have it, and an emergency balance do different jobs. One does not cancel the need for the other.
  • Do not move the only money you could use this week into a market-linked product because a page called it a plan.

How to use this page

  1. Start with the goal and when you may need the money.
  2. Note a goal amount and timeline in the linked calculator, where one applies. The figure is an illustration.
  3. Add current accessible savings and a contribution you can keep up on a quiet week.
  4. Read the risks on the investment page before you treat any option as suitable.

An investment is not assumed to be suitable. You may receive less than you invest, especially if you may need the money soon.
